Description
As a tropical country, Indonesia is home to a diverse range of medicinal plants. Since ancient times, these plants have been utilized to naturally maintain health and treat diseases. In today’s modern world, where everyone craves convenience, humans are gradually beginning to produce medications made from natural components and recipes passed down from generation to generation. As a result, there are many herbal medicines available today, whether registered or not.
Herbal medicines are categorized into 3 categories, according to BPOM: Jamu, Standardized Herbal Medicines (OHT), and Phytopharmaca. Jamu is the most basic herbal medicine because the registration process just requires empirical information. However, Jamu products lack scientific data and evidence of safety. According to BPOM, every product that will be registered as an OHT or Phytopharmaca must provide thorough scientific evidence as well as evidence of in vivo safety.
Oral chronic toxicity testing is one of the procedures needed. The test’s objective is to determine how safe a product is under long-term exposure.
How can SIG help?
In accordance with the rules of the Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, the SIG laboratory is capable of conducting in-vivo oral chronic toxicity testing on rodents.
Method of Analysis
Testing was carried out in-vivo using the toxicity test method specified by BPOM and OECD.
